Pennsylvania Conservatives Worry Trump Isn’t Doing Enough to Secure Crucial Swing State
Conservatives in Pennsylvania are increasingly concerned that Donald Trump is not putting in the necessary effort to secure the state’s 19 Electoral College votes, which could be crucial in determining the outcome of the upcoming presidential election. Many fear that without a more strategic approach, Trump could face a repeat of his 2020 loss to now-President Joe Biden.
According to a report from the Financial Times by Edward Luce, there is a growing belief among Pennsylvania Republicans that Trump’s campaign has become complacent. The former president’s team, they argue, has not made significant adjustments now that he is facing Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.
One area of particular concern is Trump’s apparent lack of outreach to Hispanic voters in the state. With roughly 600,000 Hispanic adults in Pennsylvania—a state where the margin of victory was less than 100,000 votes in the last two elections—this demographic could be key to securing a win.
“The path to the White House runs through Pennsylvania—America’s largest must-win swing state. Yet Donald Trump’s campaign is so far making no discernible effort to woo its fastest-growing demographic,” Luce noted. He emphasized that engaging with the Hispanic community could significantly boost Trump’s chances of returning to the Oval Office.
Philadelphia-based GOP consultant Albert Eisenberg echoed these concerns, stating, “We seem to be committing an unforced error. Hispanics could be the deciding factor.”
Victor Martinez, owner of Pennsylvania’s largest Spanish-language radio network, highlighted the contrast between the Biden and Trump campaigns. He noted that Biden had already begun focusing on Hispanic voters before stepping aside, while Trump’s team remains absent. “What confuses me is why the Trump campaign is not even trying to reach Spanish speakers. As a businessman, I would go bankrupt if I ignored my fastest-growing audience,” Martinez said. He also pointed out that Harris, who has only been campaigning as the Democratic presidential nominee for about a month, has already made a call-in to his show.
Luce suggested that Trump’s indifference might stem from overconfidence. “The Trump campaign’s apparent indifference may partly stem from complacency. Until Biden stepped down in late July, Trump was regularly leading the Pennsylvania polls without offering so much as a Buenos dias,” he wrote.
Former GOP Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA), a known critic of Trump, added, “Trump doesn’t seem to be making a serious effort. The focus is still all about MAGA [Make America Great Again]. But I’m skeptical that the MAGA base will be large enough to win.”
With the election fast approaching, Pennsylvania Republicans are urging Trump’s campaign to shift gears and engage more actively with key demographics that could determine the outcome in this critical swing state.
