Former Trump Attorney Jenna Ellis Criticizes Trump’s Libertarian Convention Speech

Jenna Ellis, a former attorney for Donald Trump, reacted to Trump’s speech at the Libertarian National Convention with critical commentary on social media. Trump, addressing the Libertarian convention for the first time—a former president in the event’s 50-year history—did not receive the warm welcome he might have hoped for.

“This is what happens when he talks to regular voters who want accountability for government lockdowns and the covid vax, not MAGA groupies who travel to the Bronx for rallies,” Ellis posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Her comments come amidst her own legal troubles, as she has accepted a plea deal that may lead her to testify against Trump and others involved in attempts to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory in Georgia.

Ellis continued her critique of Trump’s address, humorously noting the potential repercussions for his team: “Some Trump advisor is totally getting fired tomorrow. And then rehired probably by June.” The speech, which took place in Washington, D.C., saw Trump urging about 1,000 attendees to nominate or vote for him. Despite his call, the response was overwhelmingly negative, with constant boos from the crowd highlighting a lack of support from this particular audience.

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, acknowledged the challenges of addressing the Libertarian convention, which he admitted was “not exactly home base” for Trump. As reported by Newsweek, Miller stated, “There will be people who want him to be there and people who don’t want him to be there, but we’re on offense and competing for non-traditional votes in order to unite the country.

This promise aligns with libertarian views on criminal justice reform and individual freedoms, highlighting Trump’s efforts to appeal to a broader, more diverse electorate.

Ellis has previously expressed a distancing from Trump, citing personal reasons. “I know [Trump] well as a friend and a former boss, I have great love and respect for him personally. I simply can’t support him for elected office again,” she explained to AOL, pointing to what she describes as his “frankly malignant, narcissistic tendency to say that he’s never done anything wrong.” This division highlights the complex dynamics within Trump’s circle as he continues to navigate the political landscape.
