After being taken in a stolen car in Adelaide this morning, a mother has been reunited with her four-month-old baby boy.

SA Police said the Honda Jazz was stolen at about 7:45 am in front of a deli on Fourth Avenue in Klemzig.

When the automobile was taken, the infant was inside.

The thief allegedly got out of a grey Mazda truck and into the car before fleeing, according to police.

The Honda driver, a 29-year-old woman who happened to be the boy’s mother, was inside the deli at the time.

At 10:09 a.m., police discovered the car on Wilkinson Court in Enfield, according to Superintendent Matt Nairn.

“Thankfully seated in the rear was the child,” he said.

Paramedics attended the scene, but Superintendent Nairn said the boy was “safe and well”.

“It is a great relief to SA Police to reunite mum and child,” he said.

“As I reiterate, a four-month-old, you can imagine the distress that that caused mum.”

The baby would be checked by a doctor at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, according to police.

“To call it despicable is an understatement,” Superintendent Nairn said.

“We are looking at illegal use and kidnapping, potentially, for the primary offenses, but you imagine from any parent’s point of view, it’s more than distressing the child would be taken under any circumstances.”

Police Not Blaming Mother But ‘Be Careful’

As per abc.net, Superintendent Nairn said the occurrence was a reminder to parents to “be careful,” “, but reiterated that no blame was being placed on the mother.

“I don’t believe the mother’s done anything wrong in that context,” he said.

“I think in this case everything has been done by the offender or suspect, so not apportioning any blame to the mum at all.

“Mum’s done her absolute best.”

According to police, the alleged thief and the woman were strangers.

Police could track a device in the automobile, according to Superintendent Nairn, but it was “limited.”

The ute was stolen at 6 a.m. from the Black Forest, according to police.

The mother was “hysterical” and went outside as soon as she saw her car backing out, according to the owner of the Fourth Ave Deli, who only wanted to be known as Allan.

“I thought she was going to run in front of the car but she just stepped back a bit,” he said.

“But she was right alongside the car when he took off that way.

“[I] couldn’t sort of seeing him — he had a black mask on, a surgical mask.”
