Former First Lady Melania Trump’s latest pro-choice statement has ignited a wave of reactions, leaving critics of her husband, Donald Trump, in stitches and speculating about her political allegiances. On Thursday morning, Melania doubled down on her pro-abortion stance in an X ad promoting her upcoming memoir, set for release on October 8.

“Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard,” Melania Trump states in the ad. “There is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess at birth… What does ‘my body, my choice’ really mean?”

Her declaration stands in stark contrast to the position of her husband, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH). Both have advocated for a national abortion ban, despite now attempting to distance themselves from those positions.

Melania’s unwavering support for reproductive rights, first revealed the night before, quickly became a source of ridicule. One prominent theme emerged: many joked that she might soon endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, who has pledged to pass federal legislation restoring a woman’s right to choose.

“Melania Trump,” quipped former Trump Administration staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin, “coming to a Kamala Harris ad near you!”

Other conservatives echoed the sentiment. “Is Melania voting for Vice President Harris?” asked Republicans Against Trump, a political group critical of the former president. Richard Painter, former ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush, added, “She’s married to a man who thinks he owns the body of every woman in America. Bet she can’t wait to go vote for [Harris].”

Constitutional law professor Anthony Michael Kreis joined the chorus, humorously asking Melania if she’d be interested in supporting his legal efforts. “Melania, you want to join an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of Georgia with me?” he joked.

Some took a more serious tone, questioning Melania’s motives. Essayist Jennifer Taylor-Skinner suggested her announcement lacked authenticity. “She’s years too late,” Taylor-Skinner wrote. “She has no credibility on the left, and she’s nearly invisible to the right.”

Comedian John Fugelsang was equally skeptical, hinting that Melania may not have written the controversial parts of her memoir. “Has Melania Trump been told that she says this in her new book?” he asked, casting doubt on her role in the reveal.

As Melania’s comments continue to spark conversation, many are left wondering whether this “October surprise” will have lasting political implications—or simply add to the intrigue surrounding the former first lady.
