First Lady Melania Trump has signed a record-breaking $40 million deal with Amazon for a documentary about her life, securing at least $28 million for herself, according to The Wall Street Journal. Melania, who will receive over 70% of the proceeds, is also exploring sponsorship opportunities tied to the project. The agreement follows Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s December visit to Mar-a-Lago, where he dined with President Donald Trump, reportedly paving the way for negotiations.

According to the Journal, Melania played a key role in persuading Bezos to acquire the rights to her story, despite historically strained relations between the former president and the tech billionaire. Additionally, reports indicate that the First Lady allegedly informed CEOs who attended her husband’s inauguration that they would need to pay up to $10 million to have their names acknowledged in the documentary’s ending credits.

The $40 million price tag makes the documentary the most expensive Amazon has ever paid for such a project—three times higher than any competing bid. Paramount’s CBS reportedly submitted a modest $4 million offer, while Disney put forward a $14 million bid. Netflix and Apple opted not to participate in the bidding process.

Amazon justified its investment, with a company spokesperson stating, “We licensed the upcoming Melania Trump documentary film and series for one reason and one reason only — because we think customers are going to love it.”

Melania ensured the project would be of top-tier production quality, enlisting Hollywood’s Brett Ratner, best known for the Rush Hour trilogy, Red Dragon, and X-Men: The Last Stand, to direct. However, Ratner remains a controversial figure in the industry, given past allegations of misconduct that led to his ousting from major Hollywood studios.

The lucrative documentary deal is just one of many financial windfalls the Trump family has secured since Donald Trump’s return to the White House. In total, businesses have funneled approximately $80 million to the Trump family and the Trump Presidential Library, including settlements from lawsuits previously filed by the president.

Among these legal victories, Meta reportedly settled a lawsuit with Trump for $25 million, ABC News paid $15 million to resolve a defamation suit, and Elon Musk’s X agreed to a $10 million settlement.

As Melania prepares for the release of her documentary, speculation is growing over its content and whether it will focus on her time as first lady, her personal struggles, or her business ventures. Either way, the deal cements her as one of the highest-earning public figures in the Trump administration’s orbit.
