“I Will Never Give Up the Fight”: Kamala Harris Sparks Debate Over Potential 2028 Presidential Run
Vice President Kamala Harris is facing backlash after reports surfaced suggesting she may be eyeing another presidential run in 2028 or a bid for California governor in 2026. The speculation follows her defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 election, as reported by OK! Magazine.
CNN senior reporter Isaac Dovere revealed that Harris has been telling her allies that she “won’t go quietly into the night” and that the public “hasn’t seen the last” of her.
“Advisers, people close to her are debating about what that means,” Dovere said. “They do not want her final official act ever to be essentially certifying Donald Trump’s win over her, especially four years after January 6th.”
According to Dovere, Harris’s inner circle sees California’s 2026 gubernatorial race as an appealing option. “It seems to them like a layup essentially, that she would probably clear the field or mostly clear the field and she would get to be governor of California,” he noted.
However, pursuing the governorship could complicate Harris’s path to the presidency in 2028. “If she does that, that means she couldn’t turn around and run for president again in 2028,” Dovere explained. “She’d need to essentially declare right away.”
The debate within her camp centers on whether Harris received a “fair shot” during the 2024 election. “There are people close to her who say, ‘She didn’t get a fair shot this year. It wasn’t up to what she could have done. And look how well she performed anyway. She should get to go again in 2028,’” Dovere reported.
Others, however, warn of a more difficult path. “There are ones who say, ‘With where things are with the Democratic Party, she would not have a clear field in the Democratic primary and could lose the nomination,’” Dovere added.
After President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race in July due to health concerns, Harris launched her campaign with rallies, interviews, and podcasts. Despite her efforts, she ultimately lost to Trump.
Following her defeat, Harris delivered a spirited concession speech at her alma mater, Howard University. “The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” she said. “But hear me when I say — the light of America’s promise will always burn bright.”
Harris emphasized her resolve to continue fighting. “I concede this election, but I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign. The fight for freedom, opportunity, fairness, and the dignity of all people. I will never give up the fight for our future.”
Whether Harris’s next move leads her to Sacramento or back onto the national stage, her determination has reignited debate about her political future and her standing within the Democratic Party.
