CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins found herself in a viral moment Wednesday night as she struggled to keep a straight face during an interview with Sen. Bernie Sanders, who mocked former President Donald Trump for what he called the “83,000th time” Trump has lied.

During a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, Trump attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, the frontrunner for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, calling her “more liberal” than Sanders. Collins, on her show “The Source,” asked Sanders about this comment.

“Is that how you would put it?” Collins asked. The 82-year-old progressive laughed, while Collins appeared to try to suppress a smile.

“Uh. Probably not,” Sanders replied, as Collins cracked a smile. “It’s just possible for the 83,000th time that Trump is lying? No, I don’t think that is the case. I think the vice president had a very strong record in the U.S. Senate, a strong record working with President Biden in the administration, but no, I don’t quite think her record is where mine is in terms of being progressive.”

The internet quickly picked up on the exchange, with many noting Collins’ visible struggle to contain her laughter and others suggesting that “83,000 times seems like a conservative estimate.”

“The highlight of tonight was watching you interview Mr. Bernie Sanders,” wrote @westwing81.

“83,000 seems low,” quipped @MWolverine1983.

“Ahahaha,” laughed @MalibuSS396.

The moment resonated widely on social media, capturing both the humor in Sanders’ remark and Collins’ professional attempt to maintain composure. It also underscored the ongoing narrative of Trump’s frequent exaggerations and falsehoods, a topic that continues to generate significant discussion and scrutiny.

Sanders’ light-hearted jab at Trump, combined with Collins’ visible amusement, provided a rare moment of levity in political discourse. The senator’s pointed comment about Harris’ record compared to his own highlighted the differences within the Democratic Party while taking a direct swipe at Trump’s credibility.

As the 2024 election approaches, such exchanges are likely to become more frequent, with candidates and commentators alike finding ways to mix humor with serious political critique. For now, Collins and Sanders have provided a memorable moment that not only entertained viewers but also sparked conversations about truth in politics.
