Joe Biden is well-known for his deep love for dogs, with his pooches Champ and Major making several appearances during his presidential campaign.

Both of the lovely dogs moved into the White House in January, but they are no longer there.

Now, just days before Christmas, the President of the United States introduced his brand new puppy to the world.

‘Welcome to the White House, Commander,’ he wrote on social media alongside a picture of the dog running on the grounds with a ball in his mouth.

Joe can be seen in a video going out to play with the energetic puppy, throwing a ball for little Commander before being joined by Dr. Jill Biden.

‘Meet the newest Biden,’ the caption to the video read.

Major, the Bidens’ dog, was one of the first rescue dogs to live in the White House, been adopted from the Delaware Humane Association in 2018.

Commander’s arrival comes six months after the untimely death of Champ, the Bidens’ German shepherd, at the age of thirteen. While Major was having difficulty in adapting to the busy surroundings of the White House, which resulted in a minor biting incident, he was relocated to live with family friends in a quieter environment based on expert advice.

Joe Biden introduced his puppy to the world just days after paying an emotional visit to the Delaware gravesites of his first wife and their baby to mark the anniversary of their deaths.

Joe Biden’s wife, Neilia, and their 13-month-old daughter Naomi were killed in a car crash in December 1972, shortly after he was elected to the United States Senate.

Beau and Hunter, the couple’s two sons, who were three and two years old at the time, were also in the car and were seriously injured.

Joe was joined by his wife, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, son Hunter, daughter Ashley, and grandchildren to visit the grave over the weekend.

His son Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46, is also buried there.
