“If This A— Wipe Can Produce One Credible Person”: James Carville Claps Back at Far-Right User’s False Claims About His 2024 Election Stance
Renowned Democratic strategist James Carville, a former advisor to President Bill Clinton, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to debunk a baseless claim from far-right personality Bad Hombre, who has over 114,000 followers. Bad Hombre asserted that Carville was privately expressing deep pessimism about Vice President Kamala Harris’s chances in the upcoming election, alleging Carville had told donors Harris was poised for a “historic blowout” and would lose “every swing state and probably New Hampshire and Virginia too.”
Carville swiftly responded with a pointed rebuttal. “If this a— wipe can produce one credible person who will come forward and say they heard me say anything like this I will give $100 to the Trump campaign,” Carville tweeted, underscoring the inaccuracy of Bad Hombre’s claim. The tweet soon attracted attention, highlighting Carville’s unfiltered approach to combating misinformation.
Contrary to Bad Hombre’s assertion, Carville has expressed strong confidence in Harris’s 2024 prospects. In a recent New York Times op-ed, Carville emphasized his optimism about Harris’s ability to secure a victory, arguing that former President Donald Trump’s track record makes him a “repeat electoral loser.” Carville also pointed to Harris’s financial advantage in the final phase of the campaign, asserting that well-funded outreach could be a deciding factor in tight races.
His confidence, he noted, extends beyond just these factors, stemming from a gut feeling that Harris’s broad coalition, encompassing ideologies from both the right and the left, will resonate with voters. Carville highlighted Harris’s appeal to a unique coalition of figures like former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) and progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), remarking that such a coalition reflects a unifying commitment to preserving democracy.
“If the Cheneys and AOC get that the Constitution and our democracy are on the ballot,” Carville wrote, “every true conservative and every true progressive should get it too.” He further expressed his belief that the “vast majority of Americans are rational, reasonable people of goodwill,” arguing that Trump has inflicted a “malignant political sickness” on American life that would have destabilized other democracies.
In addition to his election predictions, Carville has been vocal about his advice for Harris in facing Trump directly. Before their only scheduled debate on ABC News in September, he advised Harris to “get under [Trump’s] skin” by prompting him to display his combative, conspiracy-laden rhetoric. “She should let him talk over her,” Carville wrote, adding that Harris could “goad him into spouting insane conspiracy theories about the previous election.”
This tactic paid off, as one of the debate’s most widely shared moments featured ABC moderators fact-checking Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election. Bad Hombre’s tweet was eventually flagged with a Community Note, a crowd-sourced correction on X that helps fact-check misleading posts, clarifying that Carville himself refuted the claim.
Carville’s direct approach to combating misinformation reflects his unwavering support for Harris and commitment to countering narratives he sees as damaging to the democratic process. His visible confidence in Harris’s campaign—and the backing of a diverse coalition—remains a cornerstone of his optimistic view of the 2024 election.
