Ivanka Trump and their Husband Jared Kushner were subpoenaed in a criminal investigation on January 6th

The special counsel handling former President Donald Trump’s criminal investigation has sent subpoenas to Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, according to a recent report.

According to The New York Times, special counsel Jack Smith’s subpoenas for the couple’s testimony before a grand jury are related to his investigation into Trump’s efforts to remain in the White House after losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden and the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the United States Capitol.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner both worked as senior White House advisers to the former president.

Both had appeared before such a House select committee investigating the Capitol riot caused by a mob of Trump supporters whipped up into anger by the former president’s false claims of losing to Biden due to ballot fraud.

Smith already sent a subpoena on former Vice President Mike Pence, who has stated that he will object to the demand for his testimony.

In the same inquiry, Smith reportedly subpoenaed Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows.

The special counsel’s office declined to comment on the article in the New York Times. Lawyers for Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner did not immediately respond to requests for comment from CNBC.

Smith is also investigating former President Trump in connection with his removal of White House records after he left office and shipment of those records to his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. Several of those papers were classified.

Evan Corcoran, the attorney who represented Trump in that case, is said to have been before a grand jury collecting evidence for the investigation and has hired his own lawyer.

Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
