Inside JD Vance’s Stunning 9,000-sqft Vice Presidential Mansion at Number One Observatory Circle
Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have officially moved into the Vice President’s residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., along with their three children, Fox News reported on January 25.
The family took center stage during President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, where their children, Ewan (7), Vivek (4), and Mirabel (3), were seen accompanying their parents. On January 23, Vance shared his thoughts about the move on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude to the American public.
“My kids are settling into the Vice President’s official residence, and I just want to say: thank you to the American people,” he wrote. “While we don’t own this property, it is a beautiful home for our three little kids. We are grateful and will take good care of it.”
The Vances are the first family with children to occupy the Vice President’s residence since Al and Tipper Gore in 1993. The historic property, located at Number One Observatory Circle, spans 9,000 square feet and features 33 rooms, including both private living spaces and areas designated for public events.
The three-story mansion, built in 1893, sits on a 73-acre plot with forested grounds. Amenities include a sunlit solarium, a heated outdoor pool, and a library. The residence is situated just two miles from the White House and has long served as the official home for vice presidents.
It is well-suited for balancing family life and the responsibilities of public office. Supporters of JD Vance took to social media to congratulate the Vice President and his family on their move. One user wrote, “We know you and Usha will be wonderful stewards of the stately home.
May you both and your children make many wonderful memories together there.” Another well-wisher commented, “We ask the Lord’s blessing over the estate to provide your family with peace and comfort, as well as joy and a deep sense of feeling at home.”
At 40 years old, JD Vance is among the youngest vice presidents in recent history, and his family brings a sense of youthful energy to the historic residence. Usha Vance, 39, is a former law clerk and lawyer, and the couple’s story has resonated with many Americans.
As the Vance family settles into their new home, the historic Vice President’s residence will once again serve as a backdrop for both public duties and family life, continuing a tradition that highlights the balance between governance and family values.
