LOS ANGELES – After the tragic loss of their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters have finally introduced their new drummer.

Taylor Hawkins, who had been the band’s drummer for an impressive 25 years and was also the best friend of frontman Dave Grohl, sadly passed away at the age of 50 during a South American tour on March 25, 2022.

In an exciting livestream event titled “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts” held on Sunday, the rock band made the highly anticipated announcement. It was revealed that veteran session drummer Josh Freese would be taking over the drumming duties for the Foo Fighters going forward.

Variety reports that prior to being announced as the new drummer for the Foo Fighters, Josh Freese had previously played with the band during tribute concerts for Taylor Hawkins last fall in London and Los Angeles. Notably, Freese has been a longtime friend of both Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins.

According to Variety, Josh Freese has an impressive musical background, having performed and toured with renowned rock bands such as Guns N’ Roses, A Perfect Circle, Puddle of Mudd, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Paramore, the Replacements, and Sting and the Vandals. The outlet also notes that Freese had most recently been drumming for Danny Elfman and the Offspring.

During the livestream event held on Sunday, the news of Josh Freese joining the Foo Fighters as their new drummer was unveiled amidst the presence of numerous other esteemed drummers, adding to the excitement of the announcement.

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith made an appearance, complaining about a “white Mercedes blocking my car.” This was followed by Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, who appeared with a bag of PF Chang’s, and Tool’s Danny Carey, who walked in and announced, “I groomed your poodles for you.”

A voice then interrupted the moment, yelling, “EXCUSE ME?!” before the camera cuts to Freese who is seen sitting behind a drum kit.

“Can we play a song or something?!” Freese asked, before the band then jumped into songs.
