Elon Musk refutes media claims of $45 million monthly donations to Trump
Tech billionaire Elon Musk clarified recent reports, stating that he never mentioned donating $45 million per month to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. “What’s being reported in the media is not true. I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump,” Musk said during an interview with controversial Canadian psychologist Jordan B Peterson.
Instead, Musk revealed that he has created a political action committee (PAC) called the “America PAC.” Its purpose is to legally receive funding and, in turn, support political campaigns. “PACs allow a lot more money into the system that would’ve been otherwise impossible,” the Tesla and SpaceX CEO explained. “Its intent is to promote the principles that made America great in the first place.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk mentioned his plans to make donations to the America PAC, which backs former President Donald Trump, back in July. However, the South African-born businessman was not listed in a filing by the group, which shows it has raised more than $8 million.
Musk publicly endorsed Trump for the first time in the U.S. presidential race on July 13, just hours after Trump was attacked during a campaign rally. On the other hand, Musk has been vocally critical of the Democratic Party’s representative, Vice President Kamala Harris, who is currently the frontrunner to replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate. His critiques have intensified as the election approaches.
Musk’s statements and actions highlight his increasing involvement in the political landscape, leveraging his influence and resources through the creation of America PAC. By doing so, he aims to support candidates who align with his vision of American values and principles. The clarification about his donations comes amidst growing scrutiny and speculation about his political affiliations and contributions.
