President Joe Biden recently criticized former President Donald Trump, asserting that something “snapped” in Trump after losing the 2020 presidential election. Biden made these remarks to supporters at a private fundraiser near Seattle on May 11, as reported by CNN.

Reflecting on the current election cycle, Biden suggested that Trump’s behavior has become increasingly erratic and obsessed with his 2020 defeat. “He’s not only obsessed with losing in 2020, he’s clearly unhinged. Just listen to what he’s telling people,” Biden told supporters.

Biden’s comments came in the context of Trump’s ongoing criminal hush money case in Manhattan, a historic first for any U.S. president. Despite feeling confident about his campaign, Biden acknowledged the likelihood of another close race. “We feel good about the state of the race, but we know the race is close,” he said.

Polling data from Decision Desk HQ and The Hill shows Trump with a slight 0.1% lead over Biden. Nationwide surveys reflect a similar trend, with Trump leading Biden by 0.02 percent. An SSRS poll conducted by CNN last month found that Trump’s support among registered voters stood at 49%, while Biden’s was at 43%, only slightly down from 45% in January’s national poll.

Biden has maintained a rigorous schedule of policy speeches and campaign events, frequently targeting Trump in his remarks. At another luncheon in Seattle, Biden humorously referenced reports of Trump closing his eyes in court during his hush money and election interference trial.

“Thank you for your warm welcome,” Biden told the audience. “But please keep it down because Donald Trump is sleeping.”Despite the challenging poll numbers, Biden’s campaign is buoyed by growing support from the Never Trump movement. According to The Daily Beast, more anti-Trump Republicans are shifting their allegiance to the Democratic side.

A super PAC originally supporting former GOP contender Nikki Haley recently renamed itself “Haley Voters for Biden.” Additionally, the Republican Accountability Project has been vocal in opposing Trump, sharing videos of former Trump voters who now plan to support Biden. These groups are focusing on voter engagement, a critical factor given the anticipated tight race in 2024.

Haley, who garnered 40 percent of the GOP primary vote in some states, represents a significant portion of the Republican base now leaning towards Biden. Trump’s dismissive attitude toward Never Trump Republicans further complicates the GOP’s efforts to consolidate its voter base. As the election approaches, the actions and support of these anti-Trump groups could play a pivotal role in the outcome.
