Biden in Commanding Position ‘The Base Appears to Be Backing Him Decisively’

Despite calls from many in the media for President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race following a lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump, one Republican strategist believes Biden is actually well-positioned to win.

Mike Madrid, a former political director for California’s GOP and co-founder of the Lincoln Project—a group of current and former anti-Trump Republicans—has shared his insights on what he considers “the single most important factor in ensuring Trump’s defeat.”

Taking to social media on Saturday, Madrid emphasized Biden’s strength in the race against Trump. “I do think heading into this week Biden is in a commanding position politically,” Madrid said. “If he doesn’t want to go, the base appears to be backing him decisively, and the blowback on the pressure campaign should be a warning to members coming at him.”

He added, “All of this could change, but I wouldn’t bet on it. There are a lot more journalists and pundits hoping he fails now. A lot more. They won’t say it, but we all know it’s true. We saw it with our own eyes. If Biden wants out, the base will follow him, but it’s his call.”

Madrid highlighted Biden’s popularity among the Black caucus, a crucial aspect of his support. This comes as Vice President Kamala Harris led a parade of Black Democrats on Saturday, warning that the threat of another Trump presidency remains the most critical issue leading up to November, reported The Hill.

“It’s really hard to see a successful coup here if Harris, Clyburn, and the Black Caucus have his back,” Madrid concluded. “Stranger things have happened in politics, and with this much time, the base will still likely coalesce behind the nominee. But the media and punditocracy? Not so sure.”

The strategist’s comments come at a time when many are questioning Biden’s ability to lead another campaign. However, Madrid’s analysis suggests that Biden’s core supporters and key political allies remain firmly in his corner, providing a strong foundation for his re-election bid.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Madrid’s perspective offers a counterpoint to the prevailing media narrative, suggesting that Biden’s position might be stronger than it appears. His confidence in Biden’s standing, especially with significant support from influential Democratic figures and voter bases, could prove pivotal as the campaign progresses.

In a political climate where media scrutiny is intense and public opinion can shift rapidly, Madrid’s insights serve as a reminder of the complexities and dynamics at play in the race for the White House.
