An honest admission of ignorance often earns widespread respect, and Angel Reese, the rookie sensation of the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, demonstrated just that in a recent interaction that has garnered significant praise. In a 35-second video posted to social media platform X on Wednesday, Reese responded to a question about Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris with a refreshingly candid and thoughtful answer.

The exchange occurred before Sunday’s game between the Sky and the Phoenix Mercury, as reported by Fox News. Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, the reporter, posed a question to Reese that seemed designed to elicit a specific response. “Vice president candidate Kamala Harris is a woman and she’s doing her thing,” Robinson began. “Her running for president — have you gotten a chance to watch her? What are your thoughts on her running for political office?”

Instead of echoing expected talking points, Reese chose to be sincere and thoughtful in her reply. “I haven’t been able to tap a lot into the political, um, election and everything going on. So I’m not that educated right now, but [I] just continue to learn and to just get feedback,” Reese said. She then encouraged civic participation, adding, “But everybody go out there and vote. I commend that. And I just tell a lot of people to go out there and do vote, because we need it for this election.”

Reese’s response was met with approval from many, including former NCAA swimmer and current women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines, who tweeted, “I respect this answer a lot. Kudos!”

Reese’s thoughtful and honest approach highlighted the importance of recognizing when one might not have all the answers, while still emphasizing the value of participation in the democratic process. Her encouragement to vote, despite her admitted lack of deep knowledge on the subject, resonated with many as a commendable stance in an often polarized political climate.
