Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumors with Humor Amid House Oversight Committee Defeat
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has once again showcased her sharp wit and poise by addressing swirling pregnancy rumors with humor and a no-nonsense attitude. The progressive congresswoman recently took to Instagram Stories to quash speculation after a follower suggested she was “glowing.”
“Everyone keeps asking me if I’m pregnant,” Ocasio-Cortez said, adding that the rumors had even reached Capitol Hill. “Even a Republican member of Congress asked me on the House floor last week,” she shared with an eye-roll. Putting the gossip to rest, she quipped, “I’m not pregnant, guys. I had a lot of food at Thanksgiving, OK? It happens.”
While her humorous rebuttal stole the spotlight, it wasn’t the only headline AOC made this week. She launched a campaign to become a top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee but ultimately lost to the more senior Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA). The race was marked by political intrigue, with reports suggesting former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi actively worked to secure Connolly’s victory, as per the Daily Mail.
According to Punchbowl News, Pelosi didn’t just endorse Connolly publicly but also made behind-the-scenes calls to rally support for him. “Pelosi has made her support for Connolly publicly known. But her behind-the-scenes maneuvering shows the amount of political capital Pelosi’s willing to put into the contest,” the outlet reported.
Connolly won the position by a vote of 131–84, with Ocasio-Cortez graciously conceding defeat. “The party made its decision. I respect the outcome of the results,” she told reporters. “I ran the best race I could. We’re moving forward.”
Even President-elect Donald Trump chimed in on the results, posting on Truth Social, “Really too bad that AOC lost the Battle for the Leadership Seat in the Democrat Party. She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!”
Through it all, Ocasio-Cortez has demonstrated her ability to navigate both the lighter and more serious sides of politics. Whether shutting down baseless rumors or handling a political loss with grace, she continues to be a prominent and dynamic figure in Washington, showcasing the resilience and humor that have made her a progressive powerhouse.
