Adoptive Mother Forced Woman to Dismember Starved Brother and Burn His Body

Investigates has obtained a chilling recorded confession connected to the alleged murders of two adopted children, Blake and London Deven, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The recording, dated April 25, 2022, features a family member admitting to helping dismember Blake Deven’s body after his death, which was allegedly caused by neglect from his adoptive mother, Avantae Deven.

Although law enforcement has not announced charges against the individual on the recording, the confession sheds light on the horrifying details of the case. The recorded conversation was captured by Nathan Mitchell, who said he knew the person making the confession. According to Mitchell, the call was initially recorded to gather evidence unrelated to the Devens but turned into a shocking revelation.

“Nathan, I need you to talk to me because I have something to tell you,” the caller began. The caller accused Avantae Deven of starving Blake to death and failing to report his death to authorities. “She starved him so much that she killed him, and then she didn’t call the ambulance,” the caller stated.

The recording details the gruesome actions that followed. “She literally had me buy a [expletive] trash can, dude, to [expletive] keep him in there for a month,” the caller claimed. They also described purchasing a saw and disposing of the body, adding, “I had to watch his [expletive] body burn. It’s been on my [expletive] mind, and I don’t know what the [expletive] to do.”

Mitchell said he provided a copy of the recording to the FBI but admitted that he initially doubted its validity. “You start to think, okay, maybe this person is lying about this for attention,” he explained. However, after hearing about Avantae Deven’s arrest in June, Mitchell revisited the recording and realized its significance.

“I actually forgot about it for the two years before this case became known, and my wife kept telling me, ‘You need to listen to this recording again,’” he said. Mitchell ultimately sent the recording to investigators, but he regrets not acting sooner. “I feel very guilty about this,” he admitted.

“I probably should have just dropped an anonymous tip, just to even make sure the boys were okay.” Investigates reached out to the FBI and Fayetteville police regarding the recording and any potential charges, but no updates have been provided. The case remains under investigation.
