Around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, police were called to Senator Ted Cruz’s Houston home after a girl was found with self-inflicted wounds on her arms. The teen involved in the collision was eventually revealed to be one of Cruz’s daughters. Since then, social media users have urged critics not to send hate comments to youngsters.
On Tuesday, police were seen outside Ted Cruz’s River Oaks house. They showed that there was no evidence of “criminal activity,” nor was there a problem with family violence. After being found, the girl was taken to the hospital.
Ted Cruz has two children, Catherine, 11, and Caroline, 14, respectively. A representative for the family released a statement to ABC 13, which said:
“This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is okay. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”
Ted Cruz was in Washington, DC at the time of the event. It is unknown if he returned home after receiving the news. Caroline, his daughter, came out as bisexual earlier this year and claimed that she disagreed with her father’s ideas. In a TikTok video, she said:
“A lot of people judge me based upon him at first glance. But I really disagree with most of his views.” Caroline Cruz has also admitted that living in the spotlight has been extremely challenging for her. She even said that the family’s PR staff adjusted the length of her shirt for a family Christmas card in order to make it appear longer.
According to sources, Caroline was once questioned on social media if she had addressed her sexuality with her conservative father. She responded by saying, “I haven’t told him yet, I’m kinda nervous to tbh but I don’t think he would be mad about it.”
Internet users were shocked to learn that the teenager had apparently tried to commit suicide. Many others voiced concern that, regardless of one’s political beliefs, seeing someone attempt suicide is frightening.
Several netizens flocked to Twitter to ask their fellow netizens not to send hate words to the daughter, despite of their opinions, because the family is going through a difficult time.
