Man Confesses to Police: Admits to Causing Wife’s Death and Setting Fire to Her Remains in a Metal Drum

In a recent development, law enforcement authorities have apprehended a 43-year-old man in connection with a distressing incident where the charred remains of his wife were discovered inside a metal drum last week.

According to a press release issued by the Henderson Police Department, the incident unfolded on Tuesday, November 21, just before 8 p.m. Emergency services, including Henderson Police and Fire, rushed to the 1700 block of Sunset Road in response to reports of a blazing metal drum. Following the extinguishing of the flames by the fire department, the lifeless body of a woman was found inside the container.

Details from an arrest report, as obtained by KSNV-TV, identified the victim as Janell Bowen. The coroner’s office concluded that Bowen’s cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation, leading them to categorize her demise as a homicide.

The primary suspect in this tragic case is said to be the victim’s husband, Freddie Wright, as per information relayed by the police. Reports suggest that Wright, along with his wife and children, had been residing in a shared residence with several other individuals since mid-November.

A person within their shared dwelling informed the police that around November 18, Wright had evicted them from the premises to confront his wife. Upon attempting to re-enter, the door was allegedly locked, and Bowen purportedly refused entry. The witness conveyed suspicions to law enforcement, asserting they believed they witnessed Wright strangling his wife during the incident.

The Criminal Apprehension Team took Wright into custody on November 27, based on police statements. During questioning, Wright allegedly admitted to investigators that he engaged in a confrontation with his wife regarding another relationship, confessing that he had “snapped” and strangled Bowen. Shockingly, Wright purportedly retained her body for several days before ultimately placing it in the metal drum and setting it ablaze at the Whitney Mesa Park trailhead.

As of now, Wright is being held in the Henderson Detention Center, facing charges of open murder, first-degree arson, and destroying evidence. The legal proceedings surrounding this disturbing case are anticipated to unfold in the coming weeks.
