A Texas man with his ex-girlfriend’s name tattooed on his chest has been accused of fatally stabbing her just one day before her 27th birthday. Jorge Albert Chavez, 30, allegedly killed Dafne Michelle Davila in the early hours of January 5 at a home in El Paso, Texas.

A chilling detail in Chavez’s mugshot shows the name “Dafne” tattooed on his chest above his prison-issue orange jumpsuit. Authorities responded to a call about “family violence” at a residence in the 600 block of Zinc Place around 3:30 a.m. El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find Dafne with severe stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office: “At approximately 3:30 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of family violence occurring at the 600 block of Zinc Place, in El Paso County, Texas. Upon arrival, deputies noticed the suspect leaving the scene in a gray 2024 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Deputies communicated the suspect’s information to assisting law enforcement agencies. Once inside the residence, deputies discovered the female victim had been severely stabbed. She was immediately transported to a local area hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.”

Chavez was apprehended approximately 200 miles away in Reeves County and later transferred back to El Paso by the Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. He is being held on a $1 million bond. Dafne and Chavez reportedly had a tumultuous relationship. A text message Dafne sent to a relative, obtained by Univision affiliate KINT, revealed her struggles in leaving Chavez.

She wrote: “In reality, it’s so hard for me to walk away, and idk why because old me wouldn’t have lasted a second in this place… I know l have you and I’m beyond grateful but I can’t explain why I’m attached all I ask for is please be patient with me.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Dafne’s funeral expenses. The tribute describes her as a “beautiful soul” with a “big heart.” It reads: “Dafne was not only physically beautiful but an even more beautiful soul and with an even bigger heart. She was taken too soon, robbed of the opportunity to accomplish her goals.”

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte highlighted the case as a tragic example of domestic violence, urging anyone in similar situations to seek help: “This tragedy reminds us of the devastating impact domestic violence has on our community.”
