Teen Slept Through Horror as Dad Killed Mom, Then Died in Fiery 100mph Crash
A tragic series of events in suburban Florida has left a 16-year-old boy orphaned after his father, James Christopher Lindsey, 42, brutally killed his mother, Kristin Stevens, 40, before taking his own life in a high-speed car crash.
The horrific attack occurred around 1 a.m. on December 6 in Chuluota, a small town near Orlando. According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Lindsey smashed into Stevens’ home with a hammer and stabbed her “more than 50 times all over her body.”
Stevens had been asleep next to her new boyfriend, following a Friday night date. The unnamed boyfriend described waking up to the gruesome sight of Lindsey attacking Stevens. He tried to intervene but was stabbed in the upper leg during the struggle.
Managing to escape, he fled to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Remarkably, Stevens and Lindsey’s teenage son, who was in the home during the attack, was unharmed. Authorities reported that the boy managed to sleep through the ordeal, reported Clickorlando.
Four hours later, Lindsey was found dead after crashing his car on a notorious bend in Orange County’s Fort Christmas Road. He had been driving at over 100 mph when he lost control, was ejected from the vehicle, and killed on impact. No other vehicles were involved.
Lindsey had a troubling history of domestic violence against Stevens, dating back to 2014. The attack occurred on the very day Lindsey was scheduled for court arraignment on a domestic battery charge from November 6. Police had requested GPS monitoring, a higher bond, and no-contact conditions, but only the no-contact stipulation and a $1,000 bond were granted.
“This is a heartbreaking and traumatic incident that will have a lasting impact on families and a community,” said Sheriff Dennis Lemma. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
In the wake of Stevens’ tragic death, her friend, Kori Alvarez Resto, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the orphaned teen and advocate for stricter domestic violence laws. “After courageously trying to escape an abusive relationship, she was murdered by her abuser—someone who was able to bypass a court injunction,” Resto wrote.
“No one should be able to break an injunction and hurt someone again.” Resto described Stevens as “a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend” who believed in spreading light and love. “Her death has left a gaping hole in the lives of everyone who knew her.”
The heartbreaking case highlights the urgent need for stricter monitoring of domestic violence offenders to prevent future tragedies.
