Hollywood legend Tom Selleck turned 80 on Wednesday, January 29, but instead of celebrating with a grand party, the Blue Bloods star was reportedly seen eating alone at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Thousand Oaks, California.

According to RadarOnline, the veteran actor was spotted eating lunch in his truck, a sight that may not come as a surprise to those familiar with his low-key lifestyle. Selleck has previously shared that he prefers not to make a fuss about his birthdays.

“I’ll probably have dinner with maybe my brother and my sister and [my wife] Jillie, just go out to dinner, kind of be quiet and not make a big deal of it,” he stated in a past interview. The Friends alum also admitted he’s not one to count birthdays anymore. “I’m trying not to count. I stopped celebrating birthdays a while back. I intend to keep working,” he shared.

However, despite his desire to stay active in the industry, Selleck has struggled to secure new roles since CBS canceled Blue Bloods in 2023. “He’s desperate for work and calling in every favor he can think of,” an insider revealed. “People might not realize how close he is with the Friends cast from back when the Magnum, P.I. hunk famously played a love interest of Courteney Cox’s character, Monica Geller.”

The source added, “They all loved him when he was on the show. He’s hoping Jennifer [Aniston] and Courteney will lend him a hand.” Selleck is reportedly hopeful that his former co-stars can connect him with a project that suits his interests. “He’s hoping they can set him up with a gig of his liking, and maybe Jen can even get him on The Morning Show.

He would love that,” the insider added. While waiting for a new opportunity, Selleck is reportedly struggling with life away from the set. “He’s a workaholic, he can’t retire,” the source continued. “Tom has finally gotten it, loud and clear, that Blue Bloods is not coming back, so he’s trying to get work proactively. He has lots of friends in Hollywood, and he’s tapping all his contacts.”

Beyond his career concerns, Selleck’s health has also been a topic of concern. At 6-foot-4, he reportedly weighs around 350 pounds, which insiders say is taking a toll on his body. “It’s no secret Tom’s been in questionable health, and he tells everyone how much he resents this early retirement that he never wanted.

His thunderous weight gain must be putting terrible pressure on his joints,” a source revealed. Florida-based physician Dr. Gabe Mirkin also weighed in on Selleck’s condition, warning that his lifestyle could have serious consequences. “The odds are overwhelming that he is already diabetic, and every high rise in blood sugar after eating can damage every cell in his body,” Mirkin stated.

As Selleck faces career setbacks and health concerns, fans are hoping the Hollywood icon will find a new project to keep him in the spotlight and, most importantly, in good health.
