Daniel Craig Reveals He Doesn’t Care Who the Next James Bond Is
Daniel Craig recently revealed he has little interest in who will take up the mantle as the next James Bond. In a joint interview with Variety, the 56-year-old actor, who starred as the iconic spy from 2006 to 2021, made it clear that he feels detached from the casting decisions for his replacement.
When asked by the interviewer if he had a preference for the next Bond, Craig’s response was straightforward. “I don’t care,” he replied, sharing a laugh with his co-star Drew Starkey, who joined him in the interview. Craig’s nonchalant attitude suggests he’s ready to move on from the role he embodied for over 15 years.
The conversation then turned to Craig’s own tenure as Bond, with the interviewer asking how many times he had played the iconic role of “007.” Craig seemed uncertain, jokingly counting aloud, “One, two, three… five? Five.” Starkey playfully added, “Too many,” prompting Craig to laugh and agree.
Craig starred in five James Bond films, beginning with Casino Royale in 2006, followed by Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and finally No Time to Die in 2021. His portrayal of Bond was widely celebrated for bringing a grittier, more complex dimension to the character, redefining the role for a new generation of fans.
Now, as the franchise prepares to continue without him, Craig appears content to leave the decision of his successor in the hands of the casting team. His ambivalence about the future Bond reflects a sense of closure and satisfaction with his time as the legendary British spy.
