Whoopi Goldberg has spoken out following more than a year without the conservative Meghan McCain on The View.

On October 1, Goldberg told Page Six at the New York Film Festival premiere of Till, the eagerly awaited movie about Emmett Till and his mother Mamie Elizabeth Till-Mobley.

“It’s calmer because nobody wants to be that tired every day,” the 66-year-old said. “I think [the show], it’s better. I feel it’s better, but I’m still tired!”

In August 2021, Meghan McCain left The View after four years.

McCain has spoken out repeatedly about her co-hosts. In her book Bad Republican, she said that the iconic talk show “breeds drama: producers can’t control costs, manage conflict or control leaking. My take on the show is that working at The View brings out the worst in people.”

She also took aim at moderator Whoopi Goldberg, saying, “The thing about Whoopi, though, is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table. I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on and it became more frequent.”

McCain also expressed his displeasure with the original host, Joy Behar. McCain claims the 79-year-old experienced “uncontrollable sobbing” off camera when she said she didn’t miss her after being on maternity leave. She claims that when she requested an apology from the producers, Behar declined.

Allegations that Meghan McCain was the cause of the show’s toxic workplace remained consistent for a long time. Page Six stated that “tensions have been high” and the hosts “have lost patience” with her back in January of 2020.

The Daily Mail columnist also described the set of The View as a “toxic work environment,” claiming that it was “isolating” for her because of her political views. “I was working on the show as the only conservative during the Trump years,” McCain explained to Variety in October 2021. “I felt like a lot of people took out their anger on the administration on me because I was the only person in the building who was a Republican.”
