Country music star Keith Urban is reportedly not thrilled about the idea of his wife, Nicole Kidman, starring alongside Ewan McGregor in a possible sequel to the 2001 hit musical Moulin Rouge! According to a RadarOnline report, director Baz Luhrmann has been in talks with studios about developing a second installment of the beloved film, but the project has hit a roadblock—Kidman’s involvement.
Urban Reportedly Uncomfortable With On-Screen Chemistry
Sources say Urban has been “desperately” trying to convince Kidman to decline Luhrmann’s offer, as he remains uneasy about her working with McGregor again. “Moulin director Baz Luhrmann’s phone has been ringing off the hook with studios eager to discuss Moulin Rouge! sequel he talked about two years ago,” an insider revealed.

However, the source added, “The only thing that seems to be stalling the project is Nicole, as Keith is likely feeling unsettled at the thought of her getting close with one of her favorite leading men.” For those unfamiliar, Kidman and McGregor’s on-screen chemistry in the original film was undeniable, sparking years of speculation about their connection following her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise.
A Tug-of-War for Nicole’s Next Role
While Kidman has not publicly confirmed whether she will reprise her role, insiders suggest that Urban, who has always been hesitant about his wife working with McGregor, is conflicted about interfering with the potential sequel. “While Keith has always been hesitant about Nicole working with Ewan again, he finds himself in a tug-of-war of emotions,” the source shared, describing him as “insecure” about the situation.

Despite his concerns, Urban reportedly does not want to be the reason the highly anticipated sequel falls apart. “He doesn’t want to be the one to ruin the fun for Baz and the countless fans of the original film,” the source noted.
Will Kidman Return to the Moulin Rouge?
As of now, Kidman has not made a final decision regarding her involvement in the project. However, with Luhrmann actively pushing for a sequel, fans are left wondering if the iconic Satine and Christian will reunite on-screen—or if Urban’s reservations will influence Kidman’s next move.
