Reality TV star Spencer Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, have turned to social media to rebuild their lives after losing their $2.5 million Southern California mansion in devastating wildfires. Pratt described the financial impact of social platforms as “life-changing” during a recent interview with Variety.

The 41-year-old shared how TikTok, in particular, has been instrumental in providing support. “I made, like, $4,000 on TikTok this week, but on TikTok Live, where people can just give to me direct, I think maybe $20,000,” Pratt revealed. “So that’s phenomenal and life-changing.”

Pratt expressed gratitude for the direct connection with supporters through social media. “That’s the power of individual supporters, people just backing you and getting behind you,” he said. “And that’s the most powerful when you don’t have to rely on ads or AI and algorithms—when just actual human beings just want to give. It’s unbelievable and incredible.”

In addition to using TikTok for fundraising, Pratt utilized the platform to promote Heidi Montag’s 2010 album, Superficial. The music gained renewed attention after going viral on TikTok during the wildfires.

“I have no idea how much money [the music has made]. I don’t know if it comes in checks or when. I’m more excited about the energy and opportunities that come from it,” Pratt explained. “I don’t think these streams and all these charts [make money].”

Pratt’s comments coincided with TikTok’s return to the U.S. after a brief ban imposed by the government was lifted on January 18. The couple’s story highlights the transformative power of social media in moments of crisis, providing both a financial lifeline and a platform to connect directly with fans.

While Pratt acknowledged the challenges of relying on algorithms and ads, he emphasized the unique opportunities created by genuine human support.

As the family rebuilds after their tragic loss, social media continues to be a vital tool in their recovery, offering both financial aid and renewed opportunities for the future.
