Mary Trump Slams Uncle Donald’s Upcoming Inauguration as a ‘Dark Day’ for America
Mary Trump, psychologist and niece of Donald Trump, expressed her dismay on Sunday about the upcoming inauguration of her uncle, labeling it a “dark day” in a blog post on Substack.
Mary began her post by quoting outgoing President Joe Biden’s optimistic farewell message: “Only in America do we believe anything is possible. Like a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Claymont, Delaware, sitting behind this desk in the Oval Office as president of the United States.”
Responding to Biden’s hopeful tone, Mary Trump countered with a sobering reflection: “It was also possible in 21st century America for a creature like Donald Trump to ascend to the presidency. In 2016 he did so despite a long, sordid history of failure, a stunning lack of experience, and the kind of bigotry and cruelty that should have been, but never was, disqualifying.”

Mary went on to criticize Donald Trump’s time in and out of office, stating, “It was possible for him to get elected, after he committed unspeakable crimes against the American people and the Constitution during his first term, and then assaulted the very institutions and values of this country during the intervening four years when he was out of office but so very obviously not out of power.”
She contrasted Biden’s assertion that democracy “held strong” with what she described as the nation’s weakening under Trump’s influence. “The realities of how weakened this nation has been by those benighted accomplices… who assailed this nation at every turn for the sake of power, personal gain, and a thirst for division… is undeniable,” she wrote.
Despite her grim outlook, Mary Trump found a sliver of solace in the transparency of the incoming administration’s motives. “They no longer feel the need to hide their criminal intent. They plan to strip America for parts and they will do so in broad daylight. And we will be watching,” she assured.

She concluded with a call to vigilance and hope: “We will keep the flame burning as long as it takes. I take comfort in that, too,” she wrote, referencing Emma Lazarus’ iconic poem about the Statue of Liberty as a beacon for those feeling lost and betrayed.
Mary Trump’s commentary highlights a sharp divide in the nation as Donald Trump prepares to take office once more, casting a shadow over the day’s ceremonies.
