Jennifer Lopez recalls ‘horrific’ struggle while filming ‘Enough’: ‘I Had a Nervous Breakdown’

Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez recently revealed the emotional toll she endured while filming the psychological thriller Enough. Speaking with Marca, the 55-year-old actress recounted how the intense shooting process left her struggling with a nervous breakdown. “I felt like I didn’t want to move. I don’t want to talk. I don’t want to do anything.

I had a nervous breakdown,” Lopez confessed, describing the difficult period during the making of the 2002 film. Despite the emotional strain, Lopez chose to push through and complete the project, determined to maintain her composure on set. “I didn’t want people to think I was falling apart,” the On the Floor singer and actress admitted.

Enough, directed by Michael Apted and based on the 1998 novel Black and Blue, tells the story of Slim, a young woman struggling financially who falls for a successful businessman, Mitch. What begins as a fairy-tale romance takes a dark turn when Mitch becomes abusive, forcing Slim to escape and fight for her freedom.

Although Lopez’s dedication to the role was undeniable, the film received mixed reviews and performed modestly at the box office, earning just $50 million worldwide. Critics were divided on the storyline and execution, but Lopez’s portrayal of a woman overcoming domestic abuse remains a significant part of her filmography.

The challenges Lopez faced while shooting Enough underscore the emotional weight of portraying such a harrowing story. The film required her to embody a character enduring significant trauma, which took a toll on her mental well-being during production.

While Enough may not have been a commercial success, it resonated with audiences for its powerful themes of survival and empowerment. Lopez’s performance as Slim highlighted her versatility as an actress, willing to tackle roles that push her both emotionally and physically.

Lopez’s candid reflections shed light on the behind-the-scenes struggles that actors often face while bringing complex characters to life. Her determination to see the film through, even in the face of personal challenges, showcases her resilience and commitment to her craft.
