The highly anticipated Britney Spears biopic appears to be facing significant delays, with the pop star herself playing a key role in the uncertainty surrounding the project. Universal Studios won the rights to produce the film after an intense bidding war, securing acclaimed director Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Wicked, to helm the project once he completes the musical adaptation’s second installment.

However, Spears’ involvement in shaping the film’s narrative has reportedly led to ongoing changes, making it difficult for production to move forward. According to The Sun, the biopic remains in the “early stages of development,” but Spears has been indecisive about the direction of the story. An insider revealed that the singer has been “changing her mind like the wind” regarding the film’s concept.
Various storylines have been discussed, but just as progress is made, “Britney will take it in another [direction],” the source claimed. Spears’ current manager, Cade Hudson, is actively involved in the project as an executive producer, working to bridge communication between the singer and the creative team. Despite his efforts, the insider described the film as “an ever-changing project at the moment with no clear direction.”

Jon M. Chu recently addressed the status of the biopic while attending the Golden Globe Awards, where he expressed his admiration for Spears and his dedication to telling her story in an authentic and respectful manner.
“I’m a big fan of Britney. I’ve been a fan since I was young and she was young and she was one of 12 acts at the Shrine Auditorium,” Chu told Billboard. “So I want to do her justice and tell her story right.” He also acknowledged the complexity of the project and emphasized the importance of taking the necessary time to develop the film properly.

“We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead,” Chu stated, making it clear that the film is still in its early planning stages and will not be rushed into production. While the project remains in limbo, fans of the pop icon are eager to see how the biopic unfolds and whether Spears will settle on a vision that satisfies her artistic vision. For now, the film’s future remains uncertain, with no official release timeline in place.
