“You Might as Well Be the One Deciding”: Alex Rodriguez’s Cryptic Post After JLo Files for Divorce from Ben Affleck

Alex Rodriguez, former MLB star and ex-fiancé of Jennifer Lopez, appeared to take a subtle jab at Lopez shortly after news broke that she had filed for divorce from her husband, Ben Affleck. On Tuesday, August 20, Rodriguez shared a cryptic quote on Instagram that seemed to hint at the latest developments in his ex’s life.
“You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction,” read the quote, which was originally shared by The Concept’s Instagram page. Though the quote was reportedly from years ago, Rodriguez, 49, chose to reshare it on his Instagram Story just an hour after news broke that Lopez, 55, had officially filed for divorce from Affleck, 51.
Rodriguez offered no further explanation for the timing or significance of the post, leaving followers to speculate whether it was directed at Lopez. The timing certainly raised eyebrows, given that it came so soon after Lopez’s legal move to end her marriage to Affleck.
Earlier that day, E! Online reported that Lopez had filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing April 26 as the date of their separation. Rumors of trouble in paradise had been swirling since May, the same month Affleck moved out of their shared Los Angeles home. As the gossip mill churned, insiders noted that the couple had been “living separate lives” for some time.
Lopez and Rodriguez had their own high-profile breakup in May 2021, ending their engagement after four years together. Not long after, Lopez rekindled her romance with Affleck, whom she had previously been engaged to in the early 2000s. The couple’s reunion quickly turned serious, with Affleck proposing again in April 2022, and the two eloping in a surprise Las Vegas wedding a few months later.
