Kevin Costner Struggles to Find Closure After Divorce from Christine Baumgartner
Kevin Costner is reportedly still seeking closure after his recent split from his former wife Christine Baumgartner. According to a source who spoke with Life & Style magazine, the Yellowstone star feels deeply betrayed by the end of their relationship. “Kevin feels like he’s been stabbed in the back,” the insider revealed, adding that he is struggling to move on, especially as he hears reports that Christine is “happy” in her new life.
The source also shared that Costner had “strong suspicions” that Baumgartner may have been seeing someone else, specifically Josh Connor, before their official separation. These suspicions have added to his difficulty in finding closure.
Costner, who has remained relatively private about the details of his divorce, did open up about the emotional toll it has taken on him during an appearance on CBS Mornings in June. “It’s powerful and it hurt,” he admitted. “But I can’t wilt like a daisy. I have to go forward, I have to continue to be who I am and keep a special eye on who they are,” the Bodyguard actor shared, referring to his children.
In addition to addressing his divorce, Costner also took the opportunity to clear up rumors about his personal life during a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show. There had been speculation that he was dating singer Jewel, but Costner was quick to set the record straight. “No, Jewel and I are friends. We’ve never gone out—ever. She’s special, and I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that is what we have. She’s special. She’s beautiful enough to go out with,” Costner explained.
He went on to discuss how his recent divorce led to him spending time on Richard Branson’s Necker Island but emphasized that there was no romantic involvement with Jewel. “Richard Branson had been asking me for years to come down to Necker Island, and I finally did. I am divorced, all of a sudden, I am a single father and he’s been asking me for years to go down there.”
Costner reiterated that his relationship with Jewel is purely platonic, saying, “I and Jewel don’t have a romance, and we’ve not dated. She’s beautiful and smart enough—it just has never happened for us. But she’s everything you might think. It just hasn’t happened.”
He added that the rumors have even reached his children, who have asked about Jewel. “I have to explain to my kids. They’re like, ‘Where is she?’ That’s the truth. You can’t stop that. It’s whatever, but she’s special,” Costner concluded.
