Lauren Boebert’s Fashion Choices: Stirring Controversy and Headlines
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), an ally of Donald Trump, has gained notoriety not just for her political stances and scandals but also for her controversial fashion choices. On Sunday, a writer highlighted how Boebert’s outfits have often sparked conversation, sometimes overshadowing her political actions.
According to Kate Prince, who writes about lifestyle and entertainment for The List, Boebert “likes to play with fashion and doesn’t dress like your typical congresswoman.” While some of her outfit choices seem intentionally designed to capture headlines, others have simply missed the mark in terms of appropriateness for the occasion.
Prince pointed out several instances where Boebert’s fashion sense raised eyebrows. One notable example was when Boebert “wore high heels to a construction site.” In May 2023, she appeared at a construction site in a knee-length sleeveless blue dress and towering high heels. Prince noted that this outfit choice left many “scratching their heads,” especially since all the men present were dressed in more practical attire, such as work boots, jeans, and hats.
“It’s interesting to note that all of the men Boebert was photographed with were wearing far more appropriate attire,” Prince observed. “We’ve seen Boebert sporting jeans and a t-shirt before, so why did she opt for such a fancy get-up?” Another fashion faux pas highlighted by Prince was Boebert’s decision to wear knock-off Trump merchandise. In June 2024, Boebert was seen at a primary election party wearing a white MAGA hat with Trump’s signature and a pair of bright gold sneakers.
However, these shoes turned out to be faked, a fact Boebert had to admit publicly. “Boebert made an embarrassing confession when she was seen wearing a white MAGA hat with Trump’s signature on it as well as a pair of bright gold sneakers,” Prince wrote, noting that the original limited-edition shoes were not in Boebert’s possession.
Prince also took issue with Boebert’s decision to wear a t-shirt emblazoned with a slogan associated with far-right movements. In 2023, Boebert posted a video on Instagram of herself at a Demolition Derby, where she wore a black long-sleeved t-shirt with “1776” in large white lettering. The number “1776” has been co-opted by some far-right groups to symbolize a call for insurrection.
“At one point, she stood on top of her vehicle in the middle of the event field and lifted her arms up into the air, proudly displaying her shirt for all to see,” Prince noted, adding, “There’s nothing quite like endorsing unconstitutional riots, apparently.”
Boebert’s fashion choices, while often controversial, seem to be part of a broader strategy to capture attention and remain in the public eye. Whether or not these choices help or hinder her political career remains to be seen, but they certainly keep her in the headlines.
