J.D. Vance’s presence at last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) may have initially been eclipsed by Elon Musk’s chainsaw-wielding stunt, but now the vice president’s choice of trousers has become an unexpected topic of online discussion.

The fashion debate ignited soon after Vance took the stage at the conservative gathering, with social media users quickly noting the unusually short length of his pants. Many were surprised to see that this was not the first time the vice president had sported cropped trousers, as The Daily Beast pointed out Monday.

“I needed to know if his pants were always too short, did he put them in the dryer?” Peggy Shinners questioned in an Instagram reel, where she closely examined Vance’s wardrobe choices.

Her final verdict: “They are always that short!” she exclaimed while showcasing multiple images of Vance wearing similarly cut trousers at various public events. “There’s always just a lil’ peek of right shin coming right on out,” she laughed. “It’s sending me, I can’t take it. This is absurd, it looks crazy!”

Menswear analyst Derek Guy weighed in on the debate, suggesting a sartorial fix: “The second lady should advise him to get wider pants and over-the-calf socks so that his bare leg doesn’t show when he sits down,” he wrote on X.

Sports analyst Scott Simpson added humor to the conversation, posting an image of Vance at CPAC with clasped hands and captioning it, “JD Vance praying for longer pants.” Jalopnik staff writer Bradley Brownell chimed in with a witty take: “DOGE said JD Vance was spending too much on suit pants and removed 20% of their length. Tragic.”

Another X user shared an image of Vance wearing his characteristic short trousers alongside depictions of historical figures in period attire. “JD Vance is such a Constitutionalist that he wears 1700s britches and stockings,” social media user @heyradar quipped.

While the debate over Vance’s fashion choices remains lighthearted, his sartorial decisions have certainly captured the internet’s attention—proving once again that politics and fashion are never far apart in the public eye.
