Man Posing as ICE Agent Attacks and Robs Woman in Broad Daylight

A terrifying attack unfolded in Brooklyn Heights this week when a man posing as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer targeted a woman in broad daylight, as reported by authorities. Now, police are asking for the public’s help in tracking him down.

It was just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday when the 51-year-old woman found herself face-to-face with the suspect in the lobby of a building near Montague and Henry Streets. According to investigators, the man approached her and claimed to be an immigration official, demanding to see her identification.

As she searched for her ID, the situation took a violent turn. The man suddenly punched her, then dragged her down a basement stairwell, where police say he attempted to sexually assault her. But before he fled, he stole her chain, cell phone, and purse.

The woman, shaken and injured, suffered cuts to her face, along with scratches and bruises. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to recover physically, but the traumatic experience will no doubt leave a lasting impact.

After the attack, the suspect ran toward Henry Street and disappeared. Now, the NYPD is urging anyone with information to come forward, hoping someone may have seen or recognized him.
