Angelina Jolie opened up about the unwavering support she has received from her children while preparing for her role as opera legend Maria Callas in the upcoming biographical film Maria. In an interview with Best magazine, the Oscar-winning actress shared the emotional challenges she faced during the filming process and how her family played a pivotal role in encouraging her.

Jolie recalled her first opera singing lesson for the film, directed by Pablo Larraín, and how it unexpectedly became a deeply emotional experience. “The first time, he said, ‘OK. Plant your feet’… He took me seriously as a singer, which was very moving to be already,” she said.

The actress revealed that when the director instructed her to “take a deep breath and then start to make sounds,” she broke down in tears. “Because I think we hold so much in that we don’t really let out. We don’t let our full voice out,” Jolie explained.

The Maleficent star also reflected on the vital support she received from her six children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne—during this demanding period. “I think I knew when I got better because I think in the beginning it was more like they were proud of me for trying so hard,” she shared.

“It wasn’t, ‘We like your voice.’ It was like, ‘Good for you, we’re proud of you Mom. We know how hard you’re working.’ Then there was a time when they started to say, ‘Actually, hey, you’re kind of doing it, Mom,’” Jolie added.

She humorously recalled the early stages of her practice sessions at home, saying, “They were with me through the times when I was singing loud in the house—and everybody was probably in their rooms thinking, ‘Oh my god.’ You know, it’s like learning the violin at home.”

For those unfamiliar, Jolie shares her six children, both adopted and biological, with her ex-husband Brad Pitt. The couple, who married in 2014 and separated in 2019, co-parent their children, who continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for Jolie.

The film Maria is highly anticipated, with Jolie taking on the challenge of portraying the iconic opera singer. Her heartfelt revelations about the support from her family offer a glimpse into her journey of growth and resilience as she brings this legendary figure to life on screen.
