Melania Trump’s Controlled Image and Tensions Exposed by Former Aides
Melania Trump has long cultivated an air of mystery, carefully controlling her public image while keeping deeper scrutiny at bay. According to her former aide and confidant Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the former First Lady adhered to an “ongoing pre-approved list” of descriptors, including words like “confident,” “strong,” and “independent.” Wolkoff described Melania’s silence as her “armor,” a deliberate strategy to maintain her enigmatic persona.
As per She Knows, “It was a way to protect her by not letting anyone fully know who she is,” Wolkoff noted in her book Melania and Me. Despite this calculated image, Wolkoff’s account reveals a more complex and fractured reality. Their once-close relationship ended in betrayal after Wolkoff orchestrated Donald Trump’s inauguration, leaving lingering questions about Melania’s role and influence within the White House.
Another former aide, Stephanie Grisham, further exposed cracks in Melania’s carefully curated image. Grisham, who resigned on January 6, 2021, recounted a chilling exchange with Melania during the Capitol riots. She asked the First Lady to tweet a condemnation of the violence, suggesting a statement supporting peaceful protest while rejecting lawlessness. Melania’s one-word response: “No.”
As per The Independent, For Grisham, this moment marked the breaking point. “I couldn’t be part of the insanity any longer,” she said. Grisham’s resignation also highlighted broader dysfunctions within the Trump administration. Speaking at the Democratic National Convention, she criticized Donald Trump’s lack of empathy and moral compass, recounting disturbing anecdotes about his obsession with media attention, even during grave moments like a hospital visit with ICU patients.
Grisham also revealed Trump’s approach to spreading falsehoods. “He used to tell me when I was press secretary, ‘Go out there and say this.’ And if it was false, he would say, ‘It doesn’t matter, Stephanie. Just say it over and over and over again, people will believe it.’”
Grisham’s break with the Trumps extends beyond her resignation. She has voiced her support for Vice President Kamala Harris, citing Harris’s “honesty and integrity” as key leadership qualities. “While I don’t agree with Vice President Harris on everything, I am proud to support her because I know she will defend our freedoms,” she said.
Grisham’s departure, like that of other former Trump allies such as Adam Kinzinger, underscores a growing repudiation of the former president’s leadership and the chaotic environment surrounding him and his administration.
