Brittany Cartwright Opens Up About Fling with Jax Taylor’s Friend and Moving On After Split
Brittany Cartwright recently shared details about her brief romance with one of Jax Taylor’s friends, as well as her feelings following her separation from Taylor. Appearing on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast on Monday, the 35-year-old reality star spoke candidly about her unexpected fling, the terms of her split from Taylor, and the journey to finding herself post-breakup.
Cartwright made it clear that she and Taylor, who announced their separation in February, had never established a “no dating in the friend group” rule. “We never spoke about that because why would we?” she explained. “First off, I didn’t think I was going to hook up with his friend. It wasn’t planned. I wasn’t trying to go after one of his friends. That’s not how it happened.”
Reflecting on the terms they had set following their split, Cartwright revealed that they had agreed to two specific boundaries: “Nobody around [our 3-year-old son] Cruz and nobody at our home that we own together.” However, Cartwright claimed that Taylor violated this agreement by bringing other women to their shared homes. “I caught him twice,” she alleged, describing her disappointment and frustration.
Discussing what drew her to Taylor’s friend, Cartwright explained that while the fling wasn’t planned, there was a natural comfort due to their shared social circle. “It wasn’t planned, but also it was somebody that I felt like I knew,” she shared. In her words, navigating trust in the unpredictable world of reality TV and fame isn’t easy. “In our world, it’s so crazy because, like, how do you trust people?”
Cartwright, who had previously spent her entire time in Los Angeles with Taylor, said that being single for the first time in LA has been an unfamiliar experience. “My whole LA story has been with Jax and on camera pretty much, so I’ve never lived in LA without Jax. So this is also a new thing for me,” she added.
When asked about Taylor’s potential reaction to her relationship with his friend, Cartwright didn’t hold back. “I was just so mad at Jax, so I didn’t care if I hurt his feelings,” she admitted. “Why should I care? He never cared about how he hurt my feelings for years. He put me down. He did so much to me.” With years of feeling neglected, Cartwright felt she had a right to move forward, regardless of Taylor’s feelings.
She also hinted that her fling was more than a casual connection, describing Taylor’s friend as “hot” and recalling their mutual attraction. “I could tell this guy was flirting with me. I was always flirting with him. He’s very much my type. Just kinda flirting through DMs one time and I was just like, come over. Slide into the DMs,” she laughed.
While Cartwright is open to meeting new people, she dismissed the idea of dating apps. “No, I’ve never been on a dating app before… I don’t think I’m that ready.” Cartwright’s comments come nine months after she and Taylor publicly announced they were “taking time apart.” She later filed for divorce on August 27, following Taylor’s completion of a 30-day treatment program at a mental health facility. As she embraces this new phase of her life, Cartwright is determined to prioritize her happiness and independence.
