Melania Trump’s new memoir offers an intriguing look into her life, revealing unexpected details, particularly about her food preferences during her time as First Lady. One of the most surprising revelations is her aversion to certain foods, regardless of where her travels took her. Notably, raw fish is a firm no for Melania.

In her book Melania, she shares a story from a 2019 state visit to Japan when she insisted that sushi, a staple of Japanese cuisine, was off the menu for her. “I made it known that I do not eat raw fish. However, I still made an effort to try local cuisine whenever possible. That night in Tokyo, the meal was a delicious blend of flavors and textures, showcasing the best of Japanese cuisines while accommodating my preferences,” she wrote, in Daily Beast

Instead of sushi, she and former President Donald Trump were served a carefully curated six-course meal that honored her preferences while highlighting the best of Japanese culinary traditions. This story illustrates her selective palate and the influence it had on official state dinners during her tenure in the White House.

Another curious detail from her memoir is Melania’s aversion to onions, despite her family’s deep ties to the vegetable. Her grandfather, Anton Ulčnik, was a celebrated grower of the renowned raška čebula, a sweet red onion variety popular in Slovenia. She recounts, “It was here that he would go on to breed a culinary masterpiece—the renowned raška čebula, or Raka onion, a sweet red variety that quickly became a favorite among the Slovenian people.”

Despite her family’s pride in this onion, Melania admits that she avoids eating onions entirely. The contrast between her family’s heritage and her personal dislike of onions is just one of the unique tidbits she shares in the memoir.

According to the Daily Mail, the book explores various aspects of her life, blending anecdotes and reflections that provide insight into Melania as an individual, distinct from her husband. One of the most striking revelations is her stance on abortion rights. While her husband, Donald Trump, has a conservative view on the issue, Melania openly supports a woman’s right to choose.

She writes, “It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government. Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?”

Melania also revisits the controversy surrounding her “I really don’t care, do U?” jacket, which she wore during a 2018 visit to migrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border. The jacket sparked outrage, with many interpreting it as insensitive. In her memoir, she clarifies, “I was determined… not to let the media’s false narratives affect my mission to help the children and families at the border…

To make the point, I wore a particular jacket as I boarded the plane, a jacket that quickly became famous. It’s a message for the media, I said, ‘to let them know I was unconcerned with their opinions of me.’” Melania’s memoir offers a mix of personal anecdotes and candid insights, shedding light on her views and experiences, and providing a deeper understanding of her as a person beyond her public image.
