Marjorie Taylor Greene Blasts Mike Johnson as ‘Speaker for the Democrats’ Over Government Shutdown Deal

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) launched a sharp attack on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), accusing him of siding with Democrats after he pushed through legislation to prevent a government shutdown. Speaking on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, Greene expressed frustration with Johnson’s leadership, claiming he no longer represents the Republican Party’s interests.
“I think a lot of people are waking up to the news this morning and realizing that you know something, MTG was right,” Greene said, referencing her previous attempts to remove Johnson from his position. “I was right, I just was early on my motion to vacate on Mike Johnson, but everybody knows it now.”
Greene had previously introduced a motion to vacate the Speaker’s chair, a move aimed at ousting Johnson, but the motion didn’t gain sufficient traction at the time. Now, she feels vindicated, declaring that Johnson has been acting more in line with Democratic priorities than Republican ones. “Mike Johnson is not our Speaker,” she insisted. “He is the Speaker for the Democrats.”
One of Greene’s key criticisms was Johnson’s support for government funding that includes allocations for the Department of Justice. She accused Johnson of continuing to fund agencies she believes have been weaponized against Republicans, including the DOJ and FBI.
“And he has delivered that through his actions of fully funding the Biden-Harris administration, fully funding the weaponized DOJ, fully funding the FBI that had agents and was involved in January 6th and raided Mar-a-Lago and has raided a lot of January 6th defendant homes,” Greene said.
The Georgia congresswoman also voiced broader dissatisfaction with the Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, arguing that the party no longer deserves to hold the majority. “I share the anger and frustration, and I don’t think Republicans deserve to be re-elected to hold the majority,” she said. “And it’s a double-edged sword, and here it is.”
Greene’s solution to the GOP’s internal struggles centers on former President Donald Trump. She urged voters to focus on re-electing Trump as a way to regain control of the federal government and reverse what she sees as the failures of the Biden administration.
“We have to elect President Trump in order to control the federal government, in order to take back all of these huge agencies and departments and set the course right,” she said. “Look, vote for President Trump like your life depends on it, and then hold your nose and vote for that RINO that you absolutely hate, because we need a good tax code in place.”
In addition to her support for Trump, Greene encouraged voters to target so-called RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) in future primary elections. She urged voters to back strong challengers in their districts to unseat Republicans who aren’t aligned with their views.
“Everybody in their district needs to pick one woman or man that they’re going to get behind, and that’s how you primary these RINOs,” Greene concluded. Greene’s fiery rhetoric reflects ongoing tensions within the Republican Party as factions debate the direction of its leadership and strategy heading into future elections.
